Flight Case Buying Checklist

Know what to look for when buying a flight case? In another blog post we may explain what each point does in more detail. For now, here's a quick start guide when looking to make sure you're spending your money wisely. Let's face it a price might seem great until you realise what you're buying is substandard to a tour grade case.

  1. Check the thickness of the wooden board. Most cases online are now being quoted in 6.5mm or 7mm board. This isn't thick enough to withstand life on the road for a very long time. At some stage your case will give which unfortunately means your equipment may become damages.
  2. Ask the manufacture what kind of edging they use. Many build the case with nail pins and then stick a metal trim on the outside giving the 'look' of a strong flight case. This becomes purely decorative and won't last a potential full life. All Ultrasonics Flight Cases are made with double angle extrusion which sandwiches the wood between two pieces of metal preventing the board from being pushed/kicked through as a case ages.
  3. If a price is cheap, the protection will be. Just like any other industry, you get what you pay for. You may think you're getting a great deal but let's face it, buy a case once and last maybe 5 or 10 years or longer (we have experience of our cases lasting nearer 30/40) or you buy a case this year and maybe a year or two down the line you have to buy another. Ask yourself, is it worth it?
  4. Check for the guarantee from the manufacturer. We offer a lifetime warranty on the integrity of every Ultrasonics case sold. This is because we're pretty sure our cases will last the reasonable lifetime on the road. We've known a full 40ft lorry tip full of our cases protecting precious equipment and the only damage done was to the lid of a case where a wheel from another case cracked the top. The customer brought it back, we replaced the panel within a couple of hours. The case is now back out on the road touring the world.
  5. See who the manufacturer has recently built for. This is a good way of finding out who respects each case manufacturer. It's pretty easy to need a quick buy but doing a bit of research beforehand can be vital for buying a decent case.
  6. Check the case construction and the hardware used! Less rivets = less strength. More Rivets = increased strength.

Remember if you ask Ultrasonics to quote, everything is made to order from the best materials available. We're definitely not the cheapest but we offer the best price for the quality of the case you'll receive. Call us on 01472 236224 or email through our website contact page.
